BETWEEN THE WORDS:
In the first episode of Between the Words, Inam Hasan narrates the legendary Urdu humorist Krishan Chandar’s essay “Jigar Goshe” for a quick look at couples who choose not to have children, and whose idea of a married life is quite fulfilling without conceiving their kin. His commentary of societal expectations from such couples is a remarkable reflection of how our society lacks the understanding of a basic concept of privacy in personal affairs, and why it deems it necessary to invade it without remorse or mercy. Krishan Chandar is a famous Urdu storyteller whose works include essays, short stories, etc. He is known for humour and unparalleled wit, and his remarkable observations of 20th century India.
